HOKO CAFE
Brick Lane, East London
Project
This space had been previously designed by Block 1 Design as a pizza restaurant in 2019. Those tenants left and the new tenant, Hoko Cafe, loved the design so much they kept everything except the name
Action
The space is long and narrow, divided into two distinct zones: an upper area that houses the counter, cookline, and ordering point, and a lower area dedicated to customer seating.
We redesigned the shopfront to fully open, allowing the entire space to flow into the street during warmer months and creating an inviting, open atmosphere. The counter features flip magnetic menus, enabling staff to easily update offerings in a playful and dynamic way.
The material palette was kept to warm, vintage tones that complement the building’s original fabric and reflect the heritage of the local area. In the seating zone, we introduced a combination of fixed and loose furniture, providing flexibility to adapt the space for both customers and staff during peak times.
